Overview

ESAVS Veterinary Orthopaedics I: The lame patient

  • Functional anatomy of the musculoskeletal system
  • How do cats and dogs walk: Normal and abnormal gait
  • How to use diagnostic imaging modalities at best
  • Degenerative and inflammatory joint diseases
  • Musculoskeletal diseases in the growing dog

Principles

This veterinary orthopaedic disease course is designed for practitioners willing to improve their knowledge in small animals’ orthopaedic diseases. Focus will be placed on diagnostic and treatment principles of various orthopaedic diseases. The first week of the orthopædics curriculum will concentrate on diagnosing the lame patient. The course will offer veterinarians 5 ECTS points for the Certificate or Master Program in Small Animal Surgery.

Learning outcomes

The participant of this course shall be able:
To recognize, characterize and propose treatment possibilities of lameness in dogs and cats.

Course organisation

The whole surgical curriculum, including soft tissue and orthopaedic diseases is under the responsability of Univ. Prof. Dr. Gilles Dupré, namely, course director.
Course masters, co-course masters, course instructors and helpers will be appointed as necessary.
