Covid-19 has taken its toll – in all countries and in all situations. We are happy to be able to start the ESAVS program again. Of course we have taken this special situation into consideration – we have adapted to the new normal in – what we think – is the best possible way:

General concept

We plan and organize our courses taking place in the second half of the year always adapting to and closely following the rules of the host country at the time of planning. While doing this, we will carefully adapt according to changing situations and make sure that you, as participants, as well as course masters or co-operation partners, will have the best possible coverage in terms of health, safety and disease prevention.

Individual concept

ESAVS has carefully looked at the scientific evaluation about risks of disease transmission. Locally we will strictly follow the rules for distancing and disinfection. We have established our own special hygiene plan for the second half of the year to give all of us, participants, course masters as well as co-operation partners, the best possible security in terms of prevention of possible transmission. We want all of you to feel safe, have a wonderful learning experience, and travel home without doubts about health risks. Thus, we will provide you with our special housekeeping rules as well as a complimentary hygiene package to make sure there will be no lack of hygienic supplies.

For any courses organized by ESAVS starting from October 2020, we will ask you to provide a health certificate stating a negative Covid-19 test in order to participate. The test result should not be older than 5 days when arriving on the course premises.

If you are unable to obtain the PCR test on your own, you may order a Laboklin test kit via the ESAVS office. Further information on PCR tests is available below.

Individual concerns

We take any concern very seriously. Please do not hesitate to contact us in case of any questions.

ESAVS Hygiene plan at courses

ESAVS understands that distancing, hand hygiene and masks whenever distance cannot be kept are crucial to prevent infections. Thus, ESAVS will provide a hygiene kit to each participant that will contain an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and a set of masks.

We ask you to:

1. Always maintain a distance of at least 1.5 meters from all other people.

2. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 30 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when hand washing is not possible. Hands should be washed:

  • Before and after eating
  • Before and after touching your face
  • After using the toilet
  • Before and after touching your face mask
  • After blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing

3. Wear masks when 1.5m can’t be maintained to help contain the spread of exhaled droplets. If you must cough or sneeze, do so in the crook of your elbow or a tissue. Dispose of any tissues immediately after use and wash hands thoroughly.

4. Stay home if you experience any symptoms of illness including cough, fever, headache, etc.

5. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth as this can spread infection.

6. Wear all provided personal protective equipment (PPE) including facemasks, disposable gowns, etc.

What if there is a mandatory quarantine in the host country for my course?
If, 6 weeks before the start of the course, there is a quarantine for entry, then we will cancel the course. This will be handled free of charge for the participant.
How do I get a PCR test?

For all courses with wet labs and/or practical sessions, proof of a negative COVID-19 test is necessary. This test must not be older than 5 days counting from the first day of the course. You must bring your test result with you for the first day of the course.

If you do not have the opportunity to get a PCR test in your country, ESAVS has teamed up with Laboklin to ensure everyone can be tested. Here is how to procure a test:

a. Please order a test at least 14 days in advance of your course start date through our website for 59€ (an order link will be sent to you via email).
b. After purchase, ESAVS will send you a COVID-19 test kit which includes an instruction manual on how to perform the test.
c. You must perform this test and send your sample to Laboklin 2 – 5 days before the start of the course (for any questions, please contact our office).
d. Tests results will be delivered via email. You must have a copy of your test results available on the first day of the course.

Please note that ESAVS will also perform a second COVID-19 test on the third day of the course to ensure participant safety. ESAVS will cover the costs of the second test.

What if I/my partner/my close relative belong to a risk group and I am afraid to travel?
In case of any uncertainty, you should refrain from joining the course. ESAVS fully understands and will refund your payment if you are within the 6-week cancellation period (in urgent cases, decision will be made individually, please contact our office).
I will be placed in quarantine on my return to my country. What should I do?
In this case, you will need to make a decision based on your own special circumstances. If you are not able to work in a home office upon your return, you must decide whether a course at a later date would be more appropriate for you.

In the case of courses with wet labs, ESAVS will provide you with a test free of charge taken during the event. Because you will receive a free COVID-19 test on the 3rd day of the course, a negative result could help you avoid a quarantine.

How do you assess the risk of participating in the course?
We have a comprehensive hygiene plan in place (please refer to the section above). For courses with a wet lab, we also make sure that all participants have a negative COVID-19 test. Thus the risk is extremely low and corresponds to the risk of your workplace at home.
