Endoscopy

Individual Courses and Comprehensive Study Program

The ESAVS Endoscopy program consists of 2 one-week modules.

Endoscopy – Small Animal Internal Medicine Endoscopy Course Using Natural Orifices

The Internal medicine endoscopy course in small animals using natural orifices is designed for clinicians with no or basic skills in flexible and rigid endoscopy. We cover instrument handling from how to set up the endoscope to maintenance and cleaning. Many tricks are discussed and shown since both course masters have been involved in endoscopic teaching for many years. Classroom teaching on all aspects of endoscopy in internal medicine, starting from indications to complications, procedures and possible findings will be followed almost daily by a practical wet lab with various models (including ex-vivo organs) and live piglets.

Endoscopy – Small Animal Laparoscopy and Thoracoscopy

The minimally invasive surgery course – Laparoscopy and Thoracoscopy is designed for clinicians with no or basic skills in rigid endoscopy. Selection and care of instruments required for basic and more advanced procedures in both dogs and cats will be covered, as well as using the equipment to broaden the range of procedures that can be performed in first opinion practice with special reference to the 2.7mm multipurpose endoscope. Laparoscopic ovariectomy and ovariohysterectomy in the dog and cat will be discussed in detail. Classroom teaching on all aspects of minimally invasive surgery, starting from indications to complications, procedures and possible findings will be followed almost daily by a practical dry lab with laparoscopic trainers and wet labs with cadavers and live piglets.
Please note: this endoscopy course is very practical oriented and thanks to the Sponsor Karl Storz, Germany between 5 and 6 tables are available for each practical course element so delegates have ample time to practice. The number of delegates is limited to 18 so this will enhance the learning effect.
